Police Propose Creation of DUI Task Force to Reduce Roanoke Car Accident Numbers

Drunk drivers continue to be a threat to the safety of themselves and anyone else they encounter on the road. Our Roanoke car accident lawyers at Skolrood Law Firm explain that’s why several local police departments in our area want to join forces to combat drunk driving in our area.

The Roanoke County and Roanoke City Police Departments have partnered with the Vinton and Salem Police Departments in submitting a request for a grant from the Department of Motor Vehicles to create a specialized Roanoke Valley DUI Task Force.

According to an article from WSLS 10 News, if the four departments receive the grant, it would provide funding for officers to conduct more saturation patrols, sobriety checkpoints, and bar checks.

Officials say the grant proposal will soon be submitted to the Department of Motor Vehicles and it will take several weeks for a decision to be reached in whether the grant will be issued. If the project is approved, each municipality would then have to approve the creation of the task force.

The recent creation of a drug task force that has already netted several arrests is potential proof that conducting these types of programs can be successful.

At Skolrood Law Firm, we support efforts to keep drunk drivers off of our roads, but our team also knows not all accidents can be prevented. That’s why it’s important to educate yourself on what to do after a car accident.
