Roanoke Students Work to Prevent Distracted Driving With PSAs

Over the past several years, texting and driving has led to countless motor vehicle collisions across the United States. The problem is especially prevalent amongst teenagers, with statistics from the U.S. Department of Transportation showing that as many as 10 percent of drivers under age 20 involved in fatal crashes are distracted at the time of the crash.

To help prevent another Roanoke Car Accident caused by distracted driving, some local teens are working to create public service announcements that address the issue. The videos are part of a contest being held by a local business.

An article from WSLS 10 News goes on to explain ORIGO—a company focused on creating technology to prevent distracted driving—is sponsoring the contest. Submissions will be viewed by a panel of judges who will award prizes to the creators of the top three videos.

So far, students from three separate local high schools have made 80 submissions. Experts hope the project will raise awareness of the dangers of distracted driving.

At Skolrood Law Firm, our team of Roanoke personal injury attorneys has seen the devastating effects of distracted driving first hand. That’s why we would like to applaud those participating in the PSA contest for taking action to prevent these accidents. We would also like to ask motorists to do their part by putting their phones down while driving.
