Preventing Nursing Home Abuse On World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

by Staff Blogger | June 12th, 2014

Mistreatment of the elderly is plaguing the United States today, considering surveys conducted by the National Center for Elder Abuse show as many as one in 10 people over the age of 65-years-old are the victims of elder or nursing home abuse each year.  More disturbing is the fact this number may be underestimated because of the number of victims who may be afraid to come forward.

This is why the Skolrood Law Firm and our team of Roanoke nursing home abuse lawyers ask you to join us in raising awareness and fighting back against the abuse and neglect of our elderly loved ones.

This coming Sunday, June 15th, has been named as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and will be a great time to get involved with putting an end to the mistreatment of those who are in their Golden years. You can help by taking a look at and distributing materials provided by the Department of Health and Human Services that can help educate the public on the signs of abuse or neglect and what you should do if you suspect a case of mistreatment. There are also several volunteer opportunities for those who wish to donate their time to the cause.

The Skolrood Law Firm and our Roanoke personal injury lawyers have seen the harm abuse and neglect can cause in a person’s life and hope the awareness event is successful in preventing our elders from being harmed at the hands of others.
