Radford Man Dies 3 Days After Brutal Beating

A 39-year-old Radford, Virginia, man who was found with a severe head injury on Friday, August 19, has died, reports The Roanoke Times, and a 24-year-old Chesterfield man has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding for inflicting the victim’s injuries.

Lieutenant Andy Wilburn told the newspaper that the victim died on Monday, August 22, as a result of his injuries.

The man was discovered on Friday around 11:45 p.m. lying unresponsive on a sidewalk at the 1400 block of East Main Street near the Radford Farmers Market. Earlier a call had come in from witnesses reporting an assault.

The unconscious man was transported to Carilion New River Valley Medical Center in Christiansburg, but was later flown to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

The man never regained consciousness before his death.

On Wednesday a 24-year-old man, who is a student at Radford University, turned himself into Radford police in connection with the victim’s death.

The investigation into this Virginia fatality is ongoing. In the meantime, the man who turned himself in is being held at the New River Valley Regional Jail without bond.
