The Roanoke Serious Injury Lawyers with Skolrood Law Firm explains that incidents where workers suffer slips and falls are a leading cause of workplace injuries in the United States. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that 16 percent of all work-related fatalities last year could be attributed to slips, trips, and falls.

A slip and fall accident recently claimed the life of a 53-year-old man at a recycling facility in Roanoke County. According to an article published by The Roanoke Times, the incident occurred at approximately 1 p.m. on Aug. 27, at the Recycling and Disposal Solutions facility located on Enon Drive in Roanoke.

Reports indicate that the worker was performing his job duties when he slipped and fell into a baler used to crush and compact recyclable materials. Rescue crews were called to the scene, but the worker died before they could arrive to offer assistance.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) sent a team of investigators to determined the cause of the accident and if it could have been prevented.
